it is a commercial space speedboat. The seven-member crew of the Nostromo is in suspended animation on their way home from a mining operation when an alarm wakes them up early. Mother (aka MU-TH-UR 6000) is an AI computer that has received what it believes to be a distress signal from a nearby moon. Commander Dallas (Tom Skerritt) gives the order for the ship to disembark from its ore cargo and land on the hostile planet.
Engineers Parker (Yaphet Kotto) and Brett (Harry Dean Stanton) repair several systems after landing on the planet, while Dallas, 2nd Officer Kane (John Hurt), and navigator Lambert (Veronica Cartwright) investigate the source of the transmission. The trio enters a large alien spacecraft to discover a giant mummified alien in the pilot’s seat, with a hole in its chest that appears to have come from the inside out.
Kane continues his exploration and comes across a room filled with a strange mist and a number of leathery objects that appear to be eggs. When one of them unfolds, something inside of him attacks him.
Ripley (Sigourney Weaver), the ship’s commanding officer, refuses to let Kane back on board due to quarantine protocol, but medical officer Ash (Ian Holm) defies her and opens the airlock anyway. When Kane is examined, a strange hand-like creature grips his face and has a tail coiled around his throat.
He can breathe, but removing the “facehugger” causes it to constrict even more, or to bleed acidic blood that eats through at least three decks of the ship before stopping. It eventually dies after sloughing off him. Kane appears to be in good health.
